It was awesome. I'm not into movies, much, because after half an hour I get totally bored and my brain starts thinking about all the laundry I need to fold. But BRAVE?
I LOVED THIS MOVIE.
I didn't know what it was about before we watched it, other than the fact that she had curly hair. Yeah. I know. That's pathetic, but whatever. It's about time there's a curly-haired heroine.
Things I absolutely loved about this movie:
1. It's not about falling in love. It's about FAMILY. About the love of family and the relationship between a mother and daughter.
2. The girl isn't perfect. She'd flawed, and screwed up, and she struggles so hard between what she wants, and what's right.
3. It's funny. Even my 7 year old boy was vastly entertained, which is saying something because he's pretty much only entertained by things that pertain to bodily functions.
4. All the characters have personality. Flaws, and interesting traits, and they're all so NORMAL.
5. The setting and animation. Her hair alone is a freaking digital masterpiece. Having been to Scotland myself, Chris and I were really impressed by how much it looked EXACTLY like places we'd been.
The conflict in this movie is internal. Yes, there's some external forces at work, but it's mostly an internal one, which makes the movie more simple than I'd expected. For some reason, before we watched it, I thought it was going to be about war or something equally huge. And when I realized it wasn't, I was disappointed for about a minute.
Only a minute, though. Because BRAVE drew me in, and we all laughed, and thoroughly enjoyed Merida's story. I was happy to have my daughter watch this, because it was all about girl strength. Flawed, broken, strength.
If you haven't seen it, you should.

Not sure I can come up with something cool, but OMG I want to win this so bad!! Emmy is obsessed and was Merida for Halloween. Would love for her to have this for her birthday!
what a great review! so glad movies are being made that show girls more than just looking for prince charming!
I wondered about this movie, I'm glad that it's a winner. I'll have to pick it up for Audra. I'm at work and the weird internet won't let me submit an entry :)
I still need to see this! Love that you loved it, it MUST be good then :)
I actually took my kids to the movies to see this. And it WAS really great!
Heard it was a great one!
I LOVE a family movie that I can get into too. Megamind was good like that, but now I want to see this one too.

I would love this!
Heard good things :) Would love another movie that I actually ENJOYED watching with my kids...
We went to this in the theater and my kids really enjoyed it, other than a little bit of fear over the bear! It's on their Christmas wish list.
I have insane curly hair that was straight when I was a little girl. And no, it's not a perm.
Oh, pick me!!! I so don't have anything cool to write (not enough coffee yet), but I am SO GLAD I found you!! I used to blog a couple of years ago and stopped when I got a divorce (grrr), and just started again since our son was born and have been on a massive search for past bloggers I love...and here you are. :) Pretty cool, huh?! :)
I'd love a copy for my kiddos! :)
I have been wanting to see this movie. And as the mother of two boys, I'd love for them to see an animated movie with a central female character who is strong and with a story line about a princess not necessarily looking for a prince.
we are all about pokemon, kirby and all things boy. i would love to show my boys that girls are equally as rad!
I love this movie!!!
I voted! Early, and I'm so glad because it is too cold today!
Fun...great giveaway!!
I haven't seen this movie yet but I LOVE owning Disney movies, even if I don't watch them that much. I save them for sick days and the holidays. No idea why :)
I Wanna win!

The kids and I loved this movie too! Actually, all three of us were crying at a few parts and again when it was over.
I wasn't sure if I wanted to see it, but many people have said it was a good movie, so I'm trying to win it!
I watched this with my curly haired daughter in the theatre and we both loved it. She and I would be so excited to win!

Do you think my kiddos are too young for it? Maybe not. Want to see it now!!
I am a huge fan of your blog. I love how you always keep things real. My oldest daughter is very similar to Cass and she will be 9 at the end of Deccember. Anyway, I think your awesome :) And I hope I win!!

I voted today! I think that's pretty darn cool if you ask me!
I'm hoping to dress up as characters from Despicable Me for next Halloween. I'm hoping it's not too weird to already be planning.
I tried to buy this soundtrack on Amazon through their instant download. It didn't work. I ended up getting it for free because Amazon messed up and tried to cancel my order after I'd already downloaded it. So I already had the music and they never charged my card. I emailed them and said I'd still pay if they wanted me to. They said to keep it, or re-buy it if I reeeally wanted to. I didn't. :)
I am a teacher and am always looking for good movies to show on fun Friday. 1 that has characters that aren't perfect sounds good for my classroom
One time I passed out giving a talk at church! It was crazy!
I've heard this movie was really good!
I voted today! I think that's pretty cool :)
Awesome giveaway! Thanks so much!!
I've heard such great things about this movie, I have curly hair too so I agree about finally having a curly-haired heroine out there :)
I actually wanted to see this when it came out, just for myself. I loved the premise of this movie, but I never got a chance to see it.

Happy 9th anniversary on being a mama! That's my cool comment for the day. :)

Is the giveaway open to me way up here in the arctic?
I love cuddling up and watching movies with my girls. We haven't seen Brave yet, but I can't wait to enjoy it with them- hopefully I win!
It's about time girls start kicking some A in Disney movies. I'm tired of the helpless princess!! Would love to win the movie!!
I didn't vote today. But I voted early. And I feel intense social media pressure to reveal that!
I hadn't wanted to see this movie but you just changed my mind! diehl.aw@gmail.com
What's cool? Hmm. I cleaned a gorilla's teeth when I was in dental school. He was knocked out of course but yep- pretty cool :o) It's fun to point him out to Nathan at the zoo.
Awesome Giveaway! I took my girls to see the movie over the summer, and they loved it. :)
I'd love to win this for my kiddos!

I found gluten free donuts on sale and bought 13 boxes. They came today....it was like Christmas.
Hmmm.... Something cool. I'm not sure anything about us is cool. Other than the fact that I am married to the cheapest man alive and the "heat" is set to 62*. Therefore, my house is cool
something cool.....well I get to help pack an eighteen wheeler truck trailer with supplies for NJ
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I thought it looked really good. Glad to have the approval of an adult. :) My daughter got the Brave wig for her birthday and it is rather creepy, I have to say.
Did I mention how much I'd like to win this? Christmas is coming up!
I'd love to win this! Thanks so much for the giveaway
I loved this movie too, such great lessons learned and it was really touching.
So, instead of something cool to say, all I could come up with is something slightly dorky to tell ya- I had about 30 disney movies BEFORE I ever had kids....can't help it. I just love Disney movies (animated)!! My girls and I would love this DVD!
I have heard so many good things about this movie; I can't wait to see it. We put it in our Netflix queue, but it's taking forever and a day to be released. Julian still hasn't seen the movie, but went ahead and spent his money on buying the Wii game, and so far really loves it. I refuse to be in the room when he plays, because I don't want any spoilers. Ha!
Hope I win, my kids would love it!
Jennifer D
sounds like a great movie!
Happy weekend! Do something fun.. with your kids and something nice for yourself. You deserve it!
I would love to win! We haven't seen it yet, but I had planned on buying it for my 3-yr old daughter (also a Madie, but with 1 "D"!) for Christmas :)
